Immediate Need

What happens when my loved one dies?

During this difficult time, you will be faced with many decisions. We will make every effort to assist you and make this period as uncomplicated as possible for you.

Regardless of when and where a death occurs, you should call us as soon as possible. We will provide you with cremation and burial options and establish an appointment time for you to meet a member of our staff to initiate all legally required vital information, documents and obituary placements.

Following are general scenarios and procedural steps for the most common death occurences:

Death in A Health Care Facility

You will be required to sign a form at the facility, releasing the remains of your loved one into our care. The staff at the health care facility will take other required steps. Although some health care facilities will call us on your behalf, it is best that you call us directly.

Anticipated Death Outside A Health Care Facility

Many people with terminal illnesses are now choosing to die at home in more familiar and peaceful surroundings--with family and friends close by. If an anticipated death occurs outside a health care facility, the first step would be to call the hospice organization or physician under whose care the individual was receiving medical treatment. The hospice nurse or physician will release the deceased into our care.

Unanticipated Death Outside A Health Care Facility

The best advice is to call 911 and request police response. The police, in coordination with the medical examiner's office, will determine the appropriate steps to be taken. They, in turn, will either retain custody or release the decedent into our care.
