Captain Roy Russell Conklin born to Russell Thurman Conklin and Florence Trufant Conklin on January 8th, 1938 in Jamaica, Queens, New York.
Captain Roy also called the Iron Man by his Doctor Khalil Khan some years ago after surviving pneumonia and making a very strong recovery, has lost his latest battle to survive on October 7th, 2018.
In his prior life before becoming a yacht captain he operated his flooring business in Pasco County Florida. He then decided to live his life as Captain of the M/Y Savannah Ann in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for eleven years. After the yacht was sold, never one to sit still, he established the now successful tour boat business River Front Gondola Tours on Las Olas Blvd in Fort Lauderdale, Florida which will continue to operate, always under the high standards that he set.
Captain Roy was a world champion hydroplane boat racer in the past and continued to show keen interest in this sport. He made friends all over the country and parts of Europe through this lifestyle and will remembered by all who knew him. Captain Roy’s character and integrity was legend, still believing that a handshake is a contract and a person’s word is a symbol of good will and honest intention.
Captain Roy’s engaging smile, quirky sense of humor, and endless pranks on family and friends will be missed. We love you and we know wherever you are you will have fair winds and following seas.
Leaving behind to honor his life are the following loved ones. His life time companion of twenty-six years Clarice Ann Crall, his son Guy Conklin and daughter Lauralee Conklin. His grandson Corey Conklin and granddaughter Chloe Conklin. Brother Edward (Rose) Conklin, sister Lynne (Salvatore) LoCascio. Ann’s daughters Jamie Trevathan, Ashley (John) Clifford and granddaughter Eleni Clifford, and grandson Tres Clifford.
Numerous cherished cousins, nieces and nephews, including extended family and friends in Fort Lauderdale and Savannah, Georgia.
There will be a celebration of life ceremony for friends and family to be announced in the near future.
