Carl Thomas, 77, of Pompano Beach, FL, passed peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2017 comforted by his daughter Terrie Pantusco and son-in-law Frank Pantusco.
Carl and his sisters Virginia and Frankie were raised in Albany, GA by his loving parents Arvil and Ada Zell Thomas where he remained until he moved his family to Atlanta, GA in the early 70's.
Of proud Cherokee Indian descent, Carl was well known for his sharp mind and motivated drive. In his 30's, he succeeded in not only passing the prestigious Atlanta Law School bar exam, but doing so after rarely attending the required classes, which resulted in a long-term mutually respected friendship with his then professor. Carl never desired a career in law. Instead he was simply fulfilling his desire to further increase his knowledge.
Although his college background in architecture later in life afforded him the ability to design his own unique, impressive dream home, Carl found his career passion as a claims adjuster in the insurance business. Forever achieving self-set goals, he excelled as one of the most sought after independent "storm trooper" insurance adjusters in the United States.
Personally, Carl was known for being a generous southern boy with a quick sense of humor and magnetic charm. He simply had a love for life, always living it to the fullest his way. His unwavering affection for the sea and a warm climate eventually led him to south Florida for retirement in his early 60's where he settled in for a life of comfort, friends, much loved football season and the sunny ocean breezes he so enjoyed.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents Arvil and Ada Zell Thomas, sisters Virginia and Frankie and his nephew Jimmy ("Jimbo"). In addition to his daughter Terrie (“T” as he called her), he leaves behind nieces Carla and Cherie and nephews Lee (Leebo) and Jason.
He will forever be greatly missed but leaves us with a lifetime full of memories for which we will eternally be grateful.
