Dominic James Bisignano, 90, of Wilton Manors, died on June 28, 2021. Dominic was born in Brooklyn, NY to Filomena and Anthony T. Bisignano. He is survived by his brother, Anthony T. Bisignano, Jr., of Naples, FL, and his niece Claire Bisignano, of Long Island, and nephew, Anthony Bisignano, and countless friends in the Fort Lauderdale area who will miss him. Dominic was married to Genevie Hogan, and although they divorced, they remained life-long friends until she preceded him in death. There were no children born of the marriage. His long-term domestic partner, John Giles Bertrand, also preceded him in death in November 2009.
Dominic received his doctorate in English Literature from NYU in June 1959, and he received a US Fulbright Scholarship in September 1959, that allowed him to study abroad in Torino, Italy for three years. He taught Victorian literature as a professor at the University of Indiana for over 25 years and retired at the end of 1994. Dominic’s greatest passion was working with students and guiding them to incorporate the fine arts in their life.
Dominic was known to his closest friends as “Brownie” and had a lifelong passion for the opera, ballet, and symphony. Dominic was known to share his passion for the arts and was active in the Ft. Lauderdale Opera and Ballet Group at the Pride Center at Equality Park. He was also an active member of the Fort Lauderdale Prime Gentlemen, the Books Club, Roundtable Discussion Group, and the SAGE group.
At his wishes, he would like to be remembered at Catholic mass, but there will be no memorial service and his ashes will be scattered at sea. He has requested that those who feel inclined to make a donation in his memory, make to the Pride Center at Equality Park, in Wilton Manors, Fl.
