Doris Lucile Thornberry Long, 83, of Ft Lauderdale, Florida
formerly of Barnesville, passed away peacefully at home on September 9, 2014. She was born February 5, 1931, in Jerusalem, Ohio, the daughter of the late Glenn E and Martha E Naylor Thornberry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H Long, granddaughter, Callie Rose Long and brother, Glenn Richard Thornberry.
Surviving are daughters, Jacqueline Long of Aspen, CO, and Cindy Long of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Grandson, John Robert Hopwood of Tampa, FL; brother, Ronald Thornberry (Darlene) of Somerton, OH; sister, Harriett Gregory (Stan) of Galion, OH; sister-in-law, Beverly Moore of Uniontown, OH, and many nieces and nephews.
Doris' career as a homemaker allowed her time to be involved in numerous charitable and social organizations through the years. Her sense of style and design was reflected in all aspects of her life. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother always making family and friends feel welcome in her home. A bowl of Hershey Kisses was kept nearby and a "kiss" offered to anyone who stopped to visit. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
At Doris's request, no service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to The Somerton United Methodist Church Rebuilding Fund, 55400 Washington St, Somerton, OH 43713, The Barnesville Hutton Memorial Library, 308 E Main St, Barnesville, OH 43713 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
