Eric R. Borbe passed away at his home in Miami, FL on April 9, 2022. He was 73 years old.
Eric was born on May 11, 1948 in Middleton Pennsylvania, the second child of Alfred Borbe and Joyce Wojnar. Eric and his sister Linda Smith (née Borbe) grew up in Tucson, Arizona.
He moved to Berkeley, California to attend college at U.C. Berkeley, and spent the next decade there. He worked as a microbiologist at Cutter Labs and then attended graduate school at U.C. Berkeley, where he received a Master’s in Public Health. Eric became a Certified Industrial Hygienist and moved to Miami, Florida in 1983 where he had a long career working for Key Pharmaceuticals and Schering Labs, later establishing a consulting business in industrial hygiene, Environment Safety and Health.
Eric married Lorraine E. Bahrick in 1985 and they had two beautiful children, Rebecca B. Borbe and Nicholas B. Borbe. They divorced in 2000 and remained lifelong friends.
Eric particularly enjoyed spending time with his family and was a devoted father, husband, and friend. He was an active member of Gilda’s Club and loved singing in the Survivorship Chorus. He was a lifelong outdoorsman, a lover of nature, volunteer Everglades ranger, fitness fanatic, swimmer, windsurfer, cyclist, fisherman, hiker, kayaker, softball player, and an avid South Florida sports fan. His friends will remember his wry sense of humor, his quiet intelligence, and his gentle manner.
Eric is survived by his children Rebecca and Nicholas Borbe, his sister Linda Smith, his stepsister Shelley Szack and stepbrother Don Switzer. He will be deeply missed but always remembered by his family and friends.
