JAIRO ARAGON, 59, died January 18, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born in Cali, Colombia and was the dear son of the late Maria and Gilberto Aragon; devoted father of the late Paola Aragon, beloved brother of the late Marino Bonilla and Carlos Aragon. Brother of Francisco Aragon; Alfonso Aragon; Rocio Aragon; Nora Aragon and Alvaro Aragon of Cali, Colombia and Miriam Lawrence (Don) of Buffalo, NY. Also, survived by many loving nephews and nieces. When he moved to Chicago he became involved with voice/data telecommunications systems engineering. He then moved to San Francisco where he obtained his Business Management Certification and his Real Estate License in 1990 and later became a Certified Investment Member (CCIM). After moving to Oakland Park in 1995, he sold commercial real estate, worked in telecommunications, opened The Latin Grill, and continued as a member of Toastmasters International and the Lions Club. As a Toastmaster, Jairo served as secretary, Vice-President and the Toastmaster Governor for Area 21. He was Vice-president of his Lions Club at the time of his passing. Last year he was honored as a Distinguished Toastmaster at the annual meeting.
Jairo took great interest in his community through his many friendships, real estate transactions, and volunteer work at All Saints Mission. He ran for Commissioner seat 4 in 2010 of Oakland Park.
He was a kind, helpful, often humorous, generous man who approached life with a positive attitude. A fellow professional wrote, “I’ve never seen Jairo in a bad mood; he is always smiling and a pleasure to be around—it was an honor to serve on the same team.” As all say, he was a good guy all around.
The family will receive friends and associates from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Saturday, January 25 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 3999 North Dixie Highway, Oakland Park, FL 33334 to share memories of his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jairo’s name to All Saints Mission (Soup Kitchen) 3460 Powerline Rd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309 or the Hollywood Colombian-American Lions Club, Inc, 61 North East 56th Street, Oakland Park, FL 33334.
