Joseph Matonis Obituary

Dr. Joseph J. Matonis (Joe), a retired Anesthesiologist passed away on July 5, 2020 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. 

He was born on May 7, 1940 to Joseph & Nelly Matonis in Paterson NJ. He graduated from St. Mary's High School and went on to receive his B.A. in Biology from the University of Louisville KY. He went on to the University of Bologna, Italy and received his Medical Degree in 1973.  While attending Medical School he had the opportunity to visit several countries in Europe exploring their culture and cuisine . When he returned to the States he did his Internship at Long Island College Hospital and his Residency at Georgetown University and New  York Medical Center. 

He became  an Attending  Anesthesiologist at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Springs, MD in July 1978.  He remained at Holy Cross for 35 years and then retired to Fort Lauderdale FL. 

He is survived by his sister Candy Curry and her life partner Leonardo Andriani both of Clearwater FL. 

Joe was a kind and gentle person with a big heart. He will be sadly missed by all those who  knew & loved him. 

Due to the current  health crisis with COVID-19 a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
