Joyce Roberts

Joyce Roberts, 92, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014 at VITAS Healthcare/Northshore Medical Center/FMC Campus, Lauderdale Lakes, Florida.

Miss Joyce Roberts was born on December 8, 1921, to the late Hartman and Ophelia (Rahming) Roberts in Nassau, Bahamas. She was the last elder of our beautiful family, and was preceded in death by her sisters, Revesie (Roberts) Poitier, Etta Roberts, her brother Charles Solomon Roberts, and her nephew Ezekiel Poitier, Jr.

Early in her life she lived in New York, where she worked as a Dental Assistant for seven years. She enjoyed traveling and lived a life of serving others. She left New York to come to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to support her sister Etta, as a Care Giver for her mother.

She was an ongoing, faithful member of the church, and she always had an encouraging word for her family and others, as she passionately quoted scripture, God’s words of life to them. As her health declined she was still able to recall her favorite scriptures and sing her favorite songs to the very end, with all praises to our great heavenly Father. She was deeply and dearly loved by her family and friends.

Joyce Roberts is survived and celebrated by: three nieces: Delores (Poitier) Henry of Culver City, California; Renee (Poitier) Kearse of Miami Gardens, Florida; and Katherine (Roberts) Russell, (Anderson) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; four nephews: Kingsley Poitier, Sr. (Eloise) of Nassau, Bahamas; Cornell Poitier of Laveen, Arizona; Clement Roberts, (Linda) of San Diego, California; and Rahming Roberts of Hollywood, Florida; and by a host of grand, and great-grand nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

There will be a Memorial Service held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 4:00 PM - Washington Park National Church of God, 3050 NW 12th Street, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33311.
