Mary Frances (Kelly) Shubert

Mary Frances (Kelly) Shubert, 90, died August 9, 2017 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Mom was born on December 31, 1926. She was the eighth of eleven children born to Hugh Kelly and Mary (Molly) Crowley Kelly. She was married to our dad, Robert Shubert for 56 years before his death on October 27, 2003. She is survived by her four children: Richard (and his wife, Ellen), Barbara, Kathy and Donna (and her husband, Bill Yanicki) and her loving granddaughters: Samantha Shubert-Yanicki and Jamie Ward and her husband, Dr. William Ward, Jr. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Theresa Shubert, and a wonderful bunch of nieces, nephews and friends.

Mom was born and raised in Manhattan, mostly in the Yorkville area. She moved to Sunnyside, Queens with our dad to raise us and lived there for 48 years before moving to Fort Lauderdale in 1998 to be close to her granddaughters. She missed New York and her family and friends back home but her lifeline to them was her telephone.

Though we were shocked by the suddenness of her decline, we are happy she did not suffer. She had a wonderful 90 years and we are grateful for them. We'd like to think that she is together with our dad, her parents and siblings and all our other loved ones. Mom was great at the games of Double Dutch, paddle board and jacks and she did a mean "Shuffle off to Buffalo" dance step. So let's hope she is enjoying those games she learned as a kid on the streets of Yorkville and is kicking up her heels dancing away with our dad.

Mom will be cremated and returned to her beloved New York to be by dad's side. No services are planned but we invite you to honor her by doing something especially kind or helpful for someone or by just spending a little more time with someone who needs it.
