Paul Fasana Obituary

Paul Fasana, 87, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida passed away April 1, 2021.

Paul was preceded in death by his husband, Dr. Robert Graham (2010). They were together for 47 years. He told the University of California - Berkley School oi Information in June, 2019 when he established the Paul Fasana LGBTQ Studies Fellowship, why he gave back. Fasana credits his longtime partner Robert Graham with nurturing his philanthropic urges. “He was more philanthropically inclined than I, early on,” Fasana laughed. “He said ‘Whatever you make, you have to give back.’ It was through his urging that I started being active in local philanthropic organizations.”

"He kept urging me to remember the importance that my schooling had for my career,” Fasana said. “Which was quite obvious once he had sort of pounded it into my head!” You would find the article published in June, 2019 very interesting and enlightening - the link to find it is HERE.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, then graduated from UC Berkeley; first in 1959 with a B.A. and then 1960 with a Masters of Library Science. Armed with those degrees, he began a long career in library administration; first at the New York Public Library as a cataloguer and later at the Columbia University Libraries as director of library automation. Eventually he returned to the New York Public Library as senior vice president and director of the Research Libraries until he retired in 1995.

Paul and his late husband, Dr. Robert Graham were long time members of Sunshine Cathedral, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Paul Fasana (donor of the double door windows at the entrance of Sunshine Cathedral's Lawrence/Lewis Center for Worship and the Arts) was a major supporter of the Sunshine Cathedral.

His husband, Dr. Bob Graham, was a pioneering member of the Sunshine Cathedral Foundation and when Dr. Graham died, Paul filled his seat on the Foundation's Board of Governors and served faithfully in that position for the rest of his life.

Paul was a leader of and contributor to the Sunshine Cathedral Memorial Chapel and Columbarium project and also a patron of the building which bears his name, the Graham/Fasana Center.

Paul was a librarian and archivist, as well as a philanthropist.
Most importantly, Paul Fasana was a good person with a loving heart and he will be missed. Let light perpetual shine upon him.
