Paul H. Reed, 64, of the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2014, in Jackson North Medical Center, Miami, Florida, following a series of illnesses and health complications.
He was born in Yellow Springs, Ohio, on March 22, 1949, to the late Charles and Sonja (Köhler) Reed. He is survived by his wife, Pam, and stepson, Paolo; his daughter Tami (Todd) McGuire and grandchildren McKenzie and McKahan, Portland, Oregon; his brother Michael Reed of Cedarville, Ohio; nephew Travis (Natalie) Reed of Xenia, Ohio; niece Samantha (Justin) Stingley of Waynesville, Ohio, and their children Nate and Audrey; his aunt Evelyn Pomeranz of Yellow Springs, Ohio; his uncle Eckhard (Brenda) Köhler of Beavercreek, Ohio; and numerous cousins and friends.
Paul attended Yellow Springs High School. He moved to Portand, Oregon, where he lived for 34 years while working as Sheriff 3 years in Clackamas County; drove trucks for several years and transported equipment for various recording stars during their concert tours, some of which included The Eagles, The Beach Boys, Dolly Parton, Eddie Money, and Linda Ronstadt. Later on, he managed his own trucking and freight companies.
Paul later relocated to Guantanamo Bay in 2001, as a Logistics Manager of several departments of Burns and Roe Services Corporation. While there, he enjoyed the warm climate and never ceased to remind his northern relatives of the beautiful weather during their most frigid of months. During his life, Paul enjoyed playing golf and boating, even living for a time on the Columbia River in Portland. He loved to have his cars with all the “works” and was fond of his prized classic Dodge “Li’l Red Express” truck. He enjoyed animals, including his late parrot Arthur, and his beloved dog Cotton.
He was loved by many and made lifetime friends wherever he settled.
Memorial services were held in US Naval Base, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba February 10, 2014 and a private family service in Cedarville, OH on February 12, 2014. Family and friends will gather in Portland, OR on a later date.
