Philip Henry Cable, beloved husband, father, and Pappi, age 82 of Pompano Beach, Florida entered into eternal rest on October 23, 2021. He was born on September 6, 1939 in Shumway, Illinois, the son of Philip M. and Roselin Cable. In the fall of 1960, he moved to South Florida where he took a job as a private farrier; then in February of 1961 he married the love of his life, Mary “Phyllis Hemmings; they were married for 59 years when Phyllis passed away in April of 2020. He treasured his children and embraced every moment with them, but he especially loved his role as Pappi to his grandchildren.
Phil will be remembered for his entertaining stories and his ability to tell a funny joke. He was always willing to stop and help a stranded motorist and lend his neighbors a helping hand. Phil’s most fame came from his work as a Farrier. Phil loved his work, and he had an unfailing work ethic. He had a special way of working with horses like none other. In 2000, Phil was the first blacksmith to be inducted into the Harness Racing Hall of Fame, and in 2020, he was honored by the United States Harness Writers Association with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Phil’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by his four children and their spouses, Morie and son-in-law Brian Reed, Marla Killmon, Mike and daughter-in-law Kim Cable, and Margo and son-in-law Scott Lerner; grandchildren, Richard Killmon Jr., Morgan Killmon, Jordan Reed Weaver, Jessica Lerner, Tate Reed Madden, Paige Reed, Joshua Lerner, Amber Cable, and Philip Cable.
