Rachael Cartagena-Chaparro Obituary

Rachael Cartagena Chaparro was born on April 14,1953, to the late Antonio and Ana Chaparro in Aguada, Puerto Rico. She was third of eight siblings that they had and she was the first of her siblings to pass away. She enjoyed family gathering and love dancing and cooking.

Rachael arrived from Puerto Rico to New York City when she was 1 year old and lived most her life in New York.  She moved to Florida approximately 25 years ago where she finally made her home in Lauderhill, FL with her husband Jose Cartagena who she loved very much and married on February 16, 2001.

On April 14, 2015 at 4:58 AM at the age of 62 she went with the Lord after a long battle with her life and illness on her Birthday.

Although she struggled all her life battling her addictions her heart was of pure gold and her whole being was one everlasting love for her surviving husband (Jose), son (Michael), siblings (Edwin, Edilberto, Hector, James, Wilfredo, Rebecca, and David), and her many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. Rachael was the surrogate mother of her nieces and nephews many that are here with her today and loved much by them.

Her greatest accomplishment was her son who she loved dearly even though she could not raise him because of her guilt for his condition. She blamed herself for 27 years because her son, Michael, was born without the use of legs. She was grateful and much appreciative that her elder brother, Edwin, raised her son to the man he became. She a phrase that she always used with her siblings and friends “I am not the one” that phrase has a great truth and meaning for all of who are still in the world battling with self. Even though Michael reached out to her to let her know that he was okay and that his love for her never diminished and was unconditional she still had a hard time not blaming herself for his condition. Michael would tell her that he is not the one that could remove those terrible memories but that there is one greater then us who is the One that we can bring all our sins, blames, and hurts our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is the
One who can bring peace of mind when they seem to be none because he was lifted up for all our sins, blames, and hurts at the cross so that we can have everlasting life with him.

We will miss Rachael and we thank God for letting her be part of our family … she is at peace now. We love you Rachael and will always remember you when tomorrow starts without you!

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” Matt 11: 28-30
