Rose Marie Murphy, 84, of Wilton Manors passed away at home unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Born in Hazleton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Verna (Medvitz) Murphy.
She graduated from Hazleton High School in 1945 and then moved to Ft Lauderdale where she resided for the past 65 years. She worked in the restaurant business for numerous establishments including the former 17th St Causeway Pub, Elks Club and the American Golf Club. She loved animals and enjoyed volunteering at the Abandoned Pet Rescue.
She was predeceased by her brother, Stanley and sister, Mary Theresa. Surviving are her sister-in-law Anna Mae Murphy, Pottstown, PA, nephews Stanley Murphy III, Michael Murphy, Kevin Murphy and nieces Theresa Urban and Elizabeth Shumaker, all from the Pottstown area. She has many cousins, great nephews and nieces and many dear friends who will miss her.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service to celebrate Rose’s life on April 3, 2013 at Knights of Columbus Hall, 3999 N Dixie Hwy, Oakland Park, FL. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 PM and service at 2:00 PM. A burial will be held at a future date at St. Aloysius Cemetery, Pottstown, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Abandoned Pet Rescue, 1137 NE 9th Ave, Ft Lauderdale, FL 33304.
