Sam Dweck, 88, of North Miami Beach passed away on Monday, April 28, 2014.
He was born to Mayer and Mollie Dweck in Brooklyn, New York.
He was predeceased by his wife Florence, from the Bronx.
Survived by: Children Virginia (Husband Ray), Tom (wife Teresa and their daughter Heather), Steven (wife Connie and their chidlren Ryan and Vincent), Andrea (Husband Christopher and children: Rachel, Abigail, Sarah, Ariel, Christopher and Gaby) who all loved him greatly.
As a young man, he acted on Broadway. In 1955, after several years of marriage, they moved from New York to Miami Beach. He started working at the Post Office as a carrier, for 10+ years doing the bicycle route on Collins Ave, and retired in 1988. Worked at the horsetrack after retirement in the security office. Enjoyed sports, horseracing, crossword puzzles, old movies, and kosher food.
Served in the Marines in WWII as a marksman. Was in Nagasaki 2 days after the bomb was dropped. Was 10 feet from the flag going up at Iwo Jima and someone called to him to get in the picture but he declined. Was in the battle at Normandy. Was a corporal at time of discharge in August 1946.
Funeral Services will be held at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, 5555 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33308 on Friday, May 9, 2014 - 10:00 AM with burial to follow in South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida with Military Honors by the Marine Corps.
