Virginia Velez de Toro Obituary

On September 18 and at her 99 years of life, Virginia Vélez de Toro departed back to her Creator. Lovingly called Mama Vi, Mama Toro and Titi Milla she became surrogate mother to many.

In her last years, as well as at the time of her departure, her daughter, Haydee, was at her side. She is survived by her husband Rafael Toro, her children Haydee Toro & Hiram Toro, her grandchildren Gabriel Toro & Daniel Toro, Gabriel Vidal & Barbara Vidal whom she raised like her own and Barbara’s daughter Natalia who was the light of Mama Vi’s eyes.

Virginia was born the youngest of twelve brothers and sisters in the town of Moca in Puerto Rico on January 12, 1923 and became the last matriarch of the extensive and close-knit Toro and Vélez clan many of whom enjoyed the generous motherly love that she indiscriminately and generously shared.

A service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 1:30 PM at Sunset Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, FL (3550 Davie Boulevard Fort Lauderdale 33312).
