Wilhelm Leuchtenmueller, 85, of Miami, passed away peacefully on December 1 after a decline in health. His family was at his side.
He is survived by Helene, his wife of 63 years, his children Ingrid (Neil) and Dieter (Beatriz), grandchildren Trevor, Melissa, and Michelle, and sister Gerti.
Born the second of ten children in Niklasdorf, Austria, he was the first in his family to attend university and receive a degree. Shortly after marrying, he and Helene moved to Indonesia where he worked for several years on large infrastructure projects. They immigrated to the United States, living in New York, Ohio, Michigan, and settling finally in Miami. He proudly became a US citizen and served the public sector as a professional engineer for many years until his retirement. He shared his love of the outdoors with his family, spending his younger years sailing in the summers and skiing in the winters. He later spent many happy days in the Florida Keys, either under sail, or at anchor, swimming, fishing, or simply enjoying the Keys' beauty. He was an adventurer who combined a great heart with a sense of humor and wonder.
Dearest Willi and Papa, we give you the Sailor's Blessing: May you always enjoy fair winds and following seas.
His family is grateful to the staff at Willow Manor and VITAS Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his memory to VITAS Community Connection (Miami, Florida 33157).
