Winsome Delrose Green (nee James), 70, of Syracuse, NY, passed away on February 1, 2018 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL after a short illness.
Winsome was born in Logwood, Hanover parish, Jamaica West Indies on January 12, 1948 and was the daughter of the late Catherine Farrier and Alvin James. She immigrated to the United States in 1969.
Winsome spent her professional career as a teacher and advocate of the developmentally disabled. She had a degree in Social Work from Syracuse University and retired from the Syracuse City School District in 2008. A lifelong Seventh-day Adventist, she was actively involved in various functions of her church over the years.
Winsome is survived by her husband of 27 years, Hubert, daughters Marjorie Graham, Shavanna (Joel) Jean-Jules, and Winsome (Owen) O’Neill, her stepchildren Oswald Green, Donna Ryan, Megan Brown and their families, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also mourning are her siblings, including sisters Mersadies Tomlinson, Beverly Daniels, Valerie Dawkins, Heather McPherson, and brothers Alvin James, Linford James, and Claude James, a host of cousins including close cousin Millicent (Alton) Morgan, god-daughter Elisha Strachan, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Winsome’s life will be held on February 9 at 11 am (viewing at 10 am) at Mt. Olivet SDA Church, 649 NW 15th Way, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311. A memorial service will be held in Syracuse, NY at a later date.
