Zenobia Elizabeth Arnau

Zenobia Elizabeth Arnau, 90, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Holy Cross Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Mrs. Arnau was born in Roswell, Georgia to James Henry and Zenobia (Hornsby) Whitie.

She spent her career as City  Clerk for several South Florida cities including Delray Beach and Deerfield Beach.

While other little girls dreamed of becoming nurses or teachers, Elizabeth Arnau fantasized about one day sitting at a desk taking minutes. Speaking on the occassion of her retirement, Elizabeth said, ``Of all the dumb things I could think of, I was a minute-taker,`` she said, with a laugh. ``Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would come to this.``

After 32 years of taking minutes -- first as city clerk in Deerfield Beach and for the last 15 years in Delray -- Arnau will now have hours to do as she pleases.

``I have no plans. I`m just going to do what I want to when I want to,`` the 66-year-old Georgia native said of her retirement plans.

And, she said, after 32 years, she deserves it.
